How Moriarty Survived The Reichenbach Fall (if he is alive)

Between me and dethronedking (okay it was mostly a stroke of genius by him BUT STILL), I think we may have figured it out.

Of course if he actually did die then this is moot (in book canon Moriarty was only in two stories, but who knows if the TV show will give us any more?)

In this episode we are introduced to the young actor Richard Brook.

And that is the biggest clue right there.

Richard Brook IS an actor, (maybe that’s not his real name, but that’s not the point) the point is that he was not hired by Sherlock to play Moriarty, he was hired by Moriarty to play Moriarty. Having an actor walking on the streets pretending to be him, carrying out the deals, the bigger scandals, gives all the files the face of the wrong man. Sherlock, John, Lestrade, Mycroft, all think that Rich Brook IS Moriarty. And this gives the real Moriarty a very, very special advantage.

He can sit in the shadows, plan and plot and deal as he pleases, and can walk in the sun without anyone ever realizing it’s him, that he’s the real criminal mastermind here. Heck, maybe when he comes back later we’ll see he’s a college professor like in the books, and Brook was one of his students.

Most likely, this actor Richard Brook is some kind of sociopath, that children’s shows weren’t fun, he wanted something more, and something like this is perfect.  He could get paid tons, never have to worry about a thing, and at the end of it all he gets to pull the best twist on Sherlock, the best way to act himself to his own death by pulling the trigger on the roof.

Of course the real Moriarty wouldn’t bother with such a thing would he?  He wanted to get rid of Sherlock more than anything, and if you’re ready to kill yourself anyway then you seriously don’t have to deal with Sherlock because YOU’RE DEAD.

Or maybe Moriarty is an organization, not just one man but a group of men who plan all these things out so well that not even Mycroft and all of his men could catch that it’s not just one little actor pretending to be the face of many.  It could be either, but for the sake of an arch-nemesis Moriarty being one man makes more sense.

TL;DR: Richard Brook was hired by Moriarty to play Moriarty which is why he had no problem killing himself on the roof and no problem acting out so many different people while plotting a large variety of crimes.
